Uitpond squalor: what can municipalities do?
When investors move to lease out real estate, municipalities are sometimes left with vacancy and squalor, with negative consequences for livability and safety in neighborhoods. But they are not completely powerless.
Our colleague Joost Hoekstra talked to Stadszaken about how local governments can intervene. Think of the temporary exclusion of pawning out in anterior agreements, the use of the vacancy ordinance or, if really necessary: expropriation.
His message: municipalities already have legal tools at their disposal. New legislation helps, but waiting is not necessary.
