As of Dec. 1, 2024, Gijs and Thomas have joined Straatman Koster Lawyers as attorneys at law.

Gijs has been practicing law since 2010. After a five-year period as EU law specialist and sector head at the Advisory Division of the Council of State, he returned to the legal profession.

As an all-round EU lawyer, Gijs is at home in the broad field of European law, with state aid, internal market and market regulation as his specialties. He has many years of experience in providing legal assistance to governments and companies in these areas. Among other things, he advises parties on area developments, financing, public-private partnerships, energy regulation and issues at the interface of market and government. He also litigates regularly on a variety of European law issues and regulations.

Thomas graduated in 2022 from Erasmus University where he took the master's degree in Private Law. At the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Thomas obtained his master's degree in Construction Law (cum laude) in 2023.

At Straatman Koster advocaten, Thomas is primarily engaged in construction and procurement law. In particular, his work consists of drafting and reviewing agreements, advising on construction law issues and conducting proceedings in both the civil courts and the Council of Arbitration.

Straatman Koster Lawyers is a highly specialized law firm in the areas of real estate, construction, energy, rental, environmental and procurement law. Our firm is involved in several large-scale and high-profile construction and development projects. The arrival of Gijs and Thomas further strengthens the construction, procurement, energy and state aid practice of Straatman Koster advocaten.
