Matthijs specialises in civil and general construction law. He regularly advises and litigates, both in civil courts and in arbitration, in the aforementioned areas of law. He works for principals as well as contractors, including municipalities, developers, building contractors and housing associations.

Matthijs has extensive experience in drawing up and reviewing building contracts (UAV), combined contracts (UAV-GC), cooperation agreements, sale and purchase agreements and agreements based on the DNR regulations governing the legal relationship client-architect, engineer and consultant.

Matthijs studied Dutch law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. After graduating, he worked at AKD between February 2006 and February 2010, before joining Straatman Koster advocaten, where he worked as a lawyer until April 2016.
After a year away, Matthijs re-joined Straatman Koster advocaten, becoming a Partner in our firm on 1 September 2018.

In 2009, he successfully completed the post-doctoral specialised programme in European and Dutch procurement law at the Grotius Academy.

Matthijs is a member of the Construction Lawyers Association (VBR-A) and the Dutch Procurement Law Association (NVvA).
